I can't slow down, I can't hold back
Though you know I wish I could,
No there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good.
Talin wasn't one to leave unnecessary stones unturned, and even though the Blind one had turned down her most generous offer of joining her coven, her work was far from over. They still had to consider the fact that in the end, she was responsible for keeping her own family safe especially given their most recent victory. She stood in the small living room, twisting the curtains between her long fingers. The place had an interesting decor, but maybe she was just surprised the house wasn't bare. Probably a decision that had been made more so by the female members of the household instead of the patriarch. She let go of the light blue fabric and turned to look at the sole clock hanging on the wall. Might as well get this over with before the human came home.
Looking over at one of her companions she waited patiently until she held eye contact with one of them. "Eli. Can you go fetch them?" She asked, with her usual amount of commandery that had made her a fair bit of a local celebrity. The younger looking boy agreed and started up the stairs. As she waited she entertained herself by observing some of the photographs that were set up around the main sitting room. Must have been for the benefit of the little girl, she silently picked up one of the frames to inspect two people that she did not recognize. A young(ish) woman with curly brown hair and green eyes standing under the arm of a striking man with dark cropped hair and a significant Scandinavian appearance. Going by the general appearance of the pair, she was going to assume that these were Dante's biological parents.
Setting down the portrait she glanced over at a photograph that caught her eye. The glass of the frame was irreversibly cracked, the picture underneath was somewhat damaged but still decipherable. The subjects were the same woman as before and a different man, this one paled in appearance compared to his female companion. She would definitely classify him as an average person, a little bit of extra weight on him, combed blonde hair.
Eli emerged down the stairs with a satisfied grin on his face before he took a seat on one of the chairs. Sam and Nichole were already making themselves at home, as the female party had already made herself acquainted with the fridge. Undignified footsteps eventually clambered down the stairs. She rolled her eyes, Talin was completely unaccustomed to the lack of grace that the typical werewolf seemed to possess. Even in her youth she never liked the savage race.
There was nothing quite as unpleasant as being woken up from a wonderful sleep. After the third or fourth nudge Dante's eyes opened as far as they could, and he just turned over. "Comeon. Man. Talin wants everyone down stairs."Eli. His mind growled over the idea of sending Eli of all people to wake them up. He was a nice guy, probably his closest friend out of the group but he did not want to hear his voice right now. He didn't move, "Tell Talin she will have to drag me down the stairs." He muttered.
He knew full well that the other vampire was definitely not going to tell the Head that anytime soon. So it shouldn't have surprised him when Eli didn't leave. "Talin will drag you down by her teeth."He joked, taking a seat on the bed right next to Dante. There was a couple second pause before he spoke again, in an usually gentle and serious tone. "But seriously, she wants to go over this before you little sister comes home."
At that reminder he was able to see the other man's point of view. He begrudgingly sat up and spent more of his mental power than should have be necessary to not fall back asleep. "Yeah... alright, just give us a few minutes to get ready." That response seemed to make Eli happy, and he stood up and left the 'room'. Dante turned to ask if Jamie still had his clothes where he left them. Since she managed to rearrange the sleeping situation for the house, he wasn't certain if she just left his belongings where they belonged.
Talin watched the young pair join the rest of the group. "Dante. Are you aware you have a broken picture frame?"She asked idly as she set the frame in question back down in it's rightful place. The young man paused for a second, almost not long enough to notice the falter in disposition. He turned, around to "look" at the elder. He looked off without his sunglasses. "Which one?" She glanced back at it, "A middle-aged brunette woman and a chubby blonde man."Repeating what she saw earlier. Talin wouldn't deny that she was curious to his rather stiff and strange reaction. Impressed that he was hiding something from the group so well, not good enough obviously, but the effort was admired.
He seemed to be contemplating something before he shrugged his shoulders. "Oh. Yeah I know." She watched him take a seat next to his werewolf girlfriend. She knew full well that there were other matters to attend to, but she couldn't help to pry a little deeper. The woman folded her arms and tilted her head slightly. "Why don't you replace it?"Anyone that didn't know Talin would probably assume she was asking a genuine question. Her tone actually held a slight amount of superiority that her companions would recognize as a "checkmate" tone. Dante met with a dismissing hand. "I don't care for it." Her thin lips curled into a devilish smile. "Curious."
If anyone could stare down a blind vampire, Talin would have found a way to accomplishment. She took a few step forward to bring herself more into the circle. "You've been a terrible liar since the day you stumbled onto my land."She shook her head, not even bothering to take a seat. Personally preferring to stand for the remainder of her conversation. "I'm surprised that you are so imprecise given how old your family is."This is why their kind was never meant to live as humans, the two species could never live side-by-side. Smoothly Talin added. "Thankfully for you, that's why we're here."
Taking the last available seat she crossed her legs neatly. She looked over at Sam with an encouraging smile. "Before we begin introductions are in order. I, Talin Cordier, originally hail from France. Today I am a coven leader in Texas."
Dante was still trying to blink the sleep out of his eyes as Talin went through her opening speech. Why did everything have to be a police interrogation with her? Her constant attempts to control people... well frankly it was starting to piss him off. None of her damn business that's what, he could do whatever he God damn pleased in his own home. He wasn't even aware that picture was in his house, it must have come in with Izzy when she moved in. Eli was the first to pip up immediately thereafter, barely letting Talin finish her entire statement before he began. "Hey Jamie! I'm Eli. We're the men from Maine!"Dante couldn't see it, but the young man had energetically pulled his cousin into a one arm squeeze to punctuate his point. A gruff voice followed, easily recognized as Sam's, responded with just as much complexity as his name would imply. "Sam."Last, as expected, was Nichole. "Nichole, and I'm a Texan."She said in her most exaggerated Southern drawl.
There was a long pause. In that time Dante suddenly decided to become absolutely preoccupied with Jamie's hair. "Perfect."He twirled one of her loose ends around his index finger, paying just the bare required amount of attention to Talin when she broke the silence. He would admit to himself that he was being a bit childish, but still, he was perfectly content with being a bitch in this particular scenario.
"Here's the summary of what we're doing. Dante's mother suddenly passed away in a dreadful manner, and he ran off immediately afterwards. Even though they eliminated him as a prime suspect, the human police still don't have an arrest and it looks bad for the public. Frankly they're going to ask a lot of questions. We're just going to make sure that none of those questions lead them anywhere near my coven. We've dealt with the police before, but we have no intentions on getting ourselves outed before we even get set up in Texas. " Dante assumed that the long winded explanation was primarily for Jamie's benefit, and maybe Eli's. But that was mainly because he thought that Eli might be completely retarded sometimes.
"One of our key problems are that death seems to follow this boy. I don't give humans much credit, but unfortunately they aren't that blind. We have a dead woman and, as far as the police are aware, a missing man who has to be found in order to take over his familial duties." Her tone changed. Becoming completely readable on her stance on the particular issue. Talin didn't know why he was focused on coming back, oddly enough she didn't want him to leave altogether. It was probably just to keep her controlling grip on everything that she could. It would be easier to keep an eye on him if she was right under her nose. Dante's mind wasn't about to be changed, he had to come home to Izzy, Jamie and.... well Marina. Once he thought about it, he had no men in his life.
Her speech lightened up again for a moment before she stated in probably the most dismissive way she could, "Oh yes, and humans don't really like to cater to our dietary and environmental needs." That was definitely vampire-speak for 'they will accidentally starve and fry you to death if you give them the chance'. It also went without saying that if you didn't give them the chance, you'd just bring up your kill-count, which caused more problems than it really solved. "Sam and I have been talking, and he might have the outlines of a good out, but he said he wants to give everyone a fair shot." The next question was specifically directed towards Jamie and Dante. Well mostly Jamie, because Dante already told her that he definitely didn't know any police officers. "Do you personally know any local law enforcement?"
