Serena gave an impatient ”mrrp” as the girl lingered longer, trying to talk to her brother who was beginning to follow her. She made a circle, pausing to give them both a small impatient glare, before turning back and taking a slow trot, allowing them to keep up with her. She made her way to the park; continually darting ahead to glance behind and make sure they weren’t being followed.
Her nose wasn’t near as sensitive as that of a canine’s, but she lightly tested the scents of the air, making her way to the gates of the park. Inside it was completely pitch black, save for the oddly spaced lamps that gave an eerie look to the place as they shone off the trees and made shadows that jumped with every breeze. She looked back to the two, darting towards the first ring of light and pausing for them to catch up before running to the next, allowing them to be able to easily see her black fur amongst the shadows.
The trip through the park made her jumpy and uneasy, and she continuously looked back to be sure they hadn’t lost her in the rest of the blackness. When the other side of the park finally came into view, she felt a rush of relief, glancing over her shoulder with the flick of her tail. Only a little further.
Once they made it to the street, it made it easier for the two to follow her, and Serena travelled down the path she had taken many times already. As she neared the rows of houses, her eyes darted down to hers. The car was gone, meaning so were her parents. Well, this would make it interesting to try and get in. Hopefully one of them would listen to her when she tried to get them to open it. It would be terribly embarrassing to have to change back –nude- just to open a door.
Thankfully her parents had left the porch light on for her. She jumped up the steps and came to a stop at the door, sitting and looking at them before expectantly looking at the door. It would be locked. Momentarily ignoring the two, Serena slipped through two rails into the hedges lining the small porch. With her paw she knocked over a hollow stone to reveal a small silvery key that she took into her mouth and jumped back onto the porch with. Carrying her trophy with some pride, she brought it to Nick’s feet and dropped it, looking down at it expectantly before looking to the door.
When they didn’t immediately get the picture, she tapped the key with her paw, then turned to the door and reached up with it, pointing towards the knob. ”Mmerr.”

Nick followed the cat as it led them through the park; he was beginning to think he was losing mind as he followed the animal. He was following a cat to God knows where, he summed his actions up to that he was just over tired as they reached a house.
The cat disappeared and then reappeared moments later with a silver object in its mouth, it dropped it at his feet and Nick saw it was a key. The cat pawed at the key then pointed at the door, indicating it wanted him to unlock it. There was no way he was going to enter some strangers home. Nick turned to leave “This is crazy,” he muttered under his breath.
He still could not believe he had followed the cat all the way there, although Annamarie could be right and the cat was really a shape shifter. Feeling incredibly stupid, he looked at the cat and with a sigh, he asked “Are you a real cat or a shape shifter like my sister seems to think?”

They really didn’t have much time for this. The small black cat sat there, glaring at the male, tail taping in a rather exaggerating movement to voice her disapproval. Sure, she was very anal at keeping her secret just that; a secret, but now really wasn’t the time for formalities. Besides, how in the blazes was she supposed to “prove” to him that she was, indeed, a shifter? There was no way in hell she was going human right now; it was too draining, she’d be naked, and the whole situation would become even more awkward, not to mention the potential of her passing out.
Her ears pricked forward suddenly, netting the sounds of the night. There was soft padding along the side of the house, as though leaves were falling from the roof. The sound of air passing through a pair of lungs followed, and Serena’s fur went on edge as her head and eyes darted around to the shadows at the neighbour’s house. Her pupils dilated until only the thinnest slivers of blue could be seen, and she watched uneasily. ’God damnit, Nick, open the door.’
A large, burly form stepped the slightest bit closer to the street and the porch. A flash of gold illuminated the eyes, set high off the ground and above a row of gleaming teeth and a lolling tongue. Two large wolves, damn near the size of bears stepped into the front lawn, eyes fixed on the two ‘humans’ (assuming Annie followed them). In the dark, they appeared almost pure white, though Serena could see there were darker flecks of silver and brown in places on the smaller one, and the other had a creamy colour to its fur. They snarled, ears and tail erect on their massive bodies. Everything about them was huge. Serena hated it when she was outnumbered and outsized.
Drawing her ears back, she gave a hiss as she puffed out her fur, making her appear, at best, inches bigger. Stalking forward, Serena placed herself between the two on her deck and the two massive monsters in her yard. In unison the two wolves looked at her, a flicker of contempt in their eyes; one even gave an almost chuckle. ’Go inside the damn house.’ She growled in her mind, even as she gave a loud feline growl to the wolves. Her tail gave another exaggerated point towards the door, just as she watched the smaller wolf bunch its muscles to pounce. It could be on the porch in one bound. Serena’s small teeth shown as she gave a catty grin, bunching her own muscles to intercept the beast.
They pounced as one, Serena’s body blurring, elongating, and thickening as she let out a roar known only to the big cats of the world. It was a panther that met the bear-sized wolf head on, flinging them backwards slightly. She had the element of surprise as her claws dug into the thick fur and skin, and then the two became a whirl of teeth, claw, fur, and blood as they fought.
The panther was much more agile, though what she made for agility, she lacked the sheer power of the wolf’s jaws. If they clamped onto her throat or mid-section, she would be done. They both knew this, and the wolf would twist and snap, attempting to end the fight quickly. Each time Serena managed to twist out of the way last second, and land a raking scratch to some part of the body before having to dodge again. From the corner of her eye, she could see the other wolf closing in on her, and she flattened to the ground as the larger one flew over her, crashing into its comrade.
She took the opportunity to pounce onto its back, biting a chunk of fur and tissue from the shoulder blades as her claws left deep gouges along its sides. There was a howl of pain, and she went for another strike.
Teeth clamped onto one of her hind paws, crushing the bones, and she let go. In the flurry of adrenaline, she couldn’t feel the pain, though she whipped around to leave deep gashes along the smaller wolf’s muzzle, even as she twisted her body to use her large teeth.
Letting go, the wolf dodged, and backed away, risking a quick glance to its comrade before backing off and circling towards the other, which was laying on the ground whimpering. Serena’s injured paw curled under her as she watched them wearily. Eventually the one wolf managed to help the other up, and without a glance back, they limped off. The panther’s eyes didn’t leave them until they disappeared from sight, and then the pain came crashing onto her. Wincing, she turned and made her way up the porch, waiting for the door to be opened before limping through the hallway.
Making her way quickly up the stairs, Serena finally managed a human gasp as she shifted back and looked down at her horribly bloody foot. A row of deep punctures oozed blood, and she bit her bottom lip as she struggled into some clothes. Her shorts got a bit of blood on them when she’d pulled them on, but she honestly didn’t care much as she tightened a dirty shirt around the foot, tying it tightly to slow the flow of blood.
Thank god she hadn’t moved the crutches from her room when she’d sprained her ankle unpacking two months ago. Grabbing them, feeling pale and weak, Serena managed her way down the stairs, looking over towards Nick and Annie (questionably Annie) before falling onto a couch. ”Took you long enough to open that damn door.” She muttered weakly with a grin. ”Can you please get me something to eat before I pass out? The kitchen’s through those doors,” she made a gesture in the direction, ”There’s snacks in a cupboard beside the fridge and some yogurt and such in the fridge. Help yourselves if you’re hungry.”
She winced, bringing her foot up onto the coffee table and gently unwrapping the tee-shirt to get a look as she flicked on a lamp beside her. ”I might need the first aid kit, too. It’s on the fridge!” She called to them as she inspected her wounds.
((Little longer than I'd intended, lol but... xD ))

Annamarie looked in amazement as a house cat beat the holy snot out of the two much larger werewolves before turning human. Well,I guess we should have opened the door,it was stupid not too.,she now realized. She looked at the house before entering,it seemed beautiful to her.As she got inside, she saw the girl who looked injured,"You were amazing out there!" She then heard her ask for a first aid kit, which she retrieved from the top of the refrigerator. Then retrieved some Ben&Jerry's Fish Food ice cream from the refrigerator for herself. She brought it to the girl and wondered a childish question."Do you ever sneak into the zoo and turn in to a monkey, because the monkeys there always look like they're carefree and having fun?"

Nick stood by the door for a few moments, letting all that had happened sink in. The fight had ended as quickly as it had begun, with the two wolves walking away, defeated. By a shape shifter.
Nick walked into the living room, Serena was on the couch with an injured foot and Annamarie returned from the kitchen, carrying a first aid kit and ice cream. He turned his back on them and looked out the window, he watched for a few moments. He thought they might return but when nothing appeared, Nick approached Serena "How are you feeling?" he asked.

”How are you feeling?” Terrible. Already she could begin to feel a slight perspiration along her brow, slowly working its way to beads of sweat. She wiped them away, unable to notice the burning fever her body was beginning to take on. Her mouth felt sticky from thick saliva, even while her throat and tongue felt dry as a desert. Had she been looking in a mirror, she would have noticed her eyes had dilated greatly, almost as much as they had when she had been a cat; the irises mere millimetres thick around her pupils. Gritting her teeth, she managed to hold back the shivers, though her skin became bumpy, and the small hairs on her arm stood erect.
Serena shot him a grin, masking the pain as much as she could. ”Kind of like I just got bit by a werewolf.” The chuckle that followed was weak, and she coughed. Her stomach clenched, urging her to eat something, but she was hit with a wave of nausea, and she quickly clenched her teeth again. A shiver wracked her body for a moment before she was able to take control of herself again and tense her muscles, preventing any more of it.
She ignored the girl’s ridiculous questions; of course she wouldn’t want to be a monkey, they were ugly and they stunk. Instead, Serena focused all her energy on hiding the pain and slight panic that was rising in her. It dawned on her as she repressed another wave of shivers. She had been bitten by a werewolf. Badly. There were rumours that a person could change into one just by being bit.
Surprisingly enough, it wasn’t the pain that brought a small tear to her eye, but the fear of changing. She really didn’t want to change into a werewolf. Serena wanted to stay exactly the way she was. Stay a shifter; be able to change into her beloved cat form for as long as she lived.
Instead of a wave of shivers, there was a bout of dry coughs as her lungs tried to shy away from the itching feeling in them. ”What happens when a shifter is bit by a werewolf...?” She asked uncertainly. The joking tone had slipped away, her unmasked horror taking hold of her voice.
Her eyes turned down to her foot, still covered and bound by her shirt. Unwinding it, a disgusting bubble of blood formed and oozed, and she pressed her shirt against it again, gently dabbing away as much blood as possible to get a better look. Opening the kit with bloodied fingers, Serena pulled out a small bottle of disinfecting alcohol, large cotton squares, and a wrap that she put into her mouth and bit down on hard. Placing a couple of paper towels under her foot and ankle, Serena took a deep breath and sealed off her lungs, bracing herself for the stinging pain as she unscrewed the disinfecting alcohol. The only sound she managed to make passed the wrap that muffled and gagged her was a small whimper as she squeezed her eyes closed. Unwanted tears slipped down her cheeks, and she could feel her forehead becoming damp and chilled as sweat caused her skin to shine slightly.
Quickly dabbing the wound with some more paper towel, she managed a better look at it clean. Distinct punctures outlined teeth, but they were larger than the teeth that had bit into her. It must have cut and slid when she’d been tossed off the back of the large werewolf. Fresh blood began welling out, and she quickly covered the worst of the wounds with the clean cotton squares, and bound them on with the cloth elastic wrap she’d held in her mouth. She made sure it was tightened enough that her toes were on the verge of going blue, so less blood could flow out.
The ache of that wound became a steady throb and sting, and she was able to inspect her bodies for other injuries. There were a few scratches, likely more from twigs on the lawn and claws than from teeth. Those she wasn’t as worried about.
”Damn, those two were nasty. Do you know them?” The pained, crying Serena was once again replaced with the joking one, even though she looked much more pale and sickly now. Her cheeks were bright red that spread to her forehead, neck, and nose. To put it simply, she looked like hell, but she tried to push it away. Hide it. Years of learned feline instinct told her to hide her pain, hide her weakness and vulnerability. Fight until she either passed out or died. ... Something she refused to admit might happen soon if she wasn’t treated properly, and fast.
She managed a weak grin, and nestled back into the soft, comfortable chair as she pulled a thick wool blanket from the back of it and wrapped herself up in it.
((lol, it's alright xD. ... I did put into Serena's profile that she's stubborn as hell, right? lol ... >.> So stubborn it might kill her -.- ))

Annamarie wondered about what the girl just said. She also noticed the girl seemed upset."I think you're going to be okay,I never heard of a non-human becoming a werewolf." She never heard about that happening, and she didn't want the girl to be unhappy. "Hey,you know what? That is the first time I ever saw a cat beat up a werewolf, and it was pretty cool, you are pretty cool",she said trying to make her forget her about her pain.Aw,nuts! They always have to ask. "Those two are...well,did you ever hear of Cain and Abel? Well,Nick and I and my other sister, are the Abels of a family of Cains."
"In other words,Tweedledum and Tweedle-Even-Dumber are our siblings, but we escaped from the clan.I hate those two,I even have the therapy slash Voodoo dolls to prove it." She took out a two small dolls, one of which had a blue shirt and black pants and straw for hair."That is the male one,Connor." She pointed to the straw,"He has weird hair." She generated a claw and slashed the doll for yet another time,"That is for always pretending I wasn't there, always thinking that you were better than me." The other was more pins and scratches than doll."This one is Jamie, she was a bit more proactive,by that I mean she was a bully." She suddenly realized she was making a bad impression."Sorry,I don't mean to be weird, but they did make me feel like a freak in my own home. And now they know I faked my death",she said a little scared.

Nick frowned as he watched Serena clean and bandage her wounded foot; the bite would probably take a while to heal. He wondered how she was going to explain this injury to family and friends.
Nick groaned when Annamarie decided to share that they came from a family full of rogues and had ran away from the pack, he was even more horrified and embarrassed when she pulled out vodoo dolls she had made of Jamie and Connor. “When someone asks you simple question like, ‘do you know them’ you don’t have to tell them your whole life story!” he growled at her. “A simple yes would have been okay.”
Nick had told no one since his arrival in Crossroads a year ago that he was from a family of rogue wolves and now Annamaire trusted a girl they barely knew, and shared their secret with her. He turned his attention back to Serena “You aren’t going to tell anyone, right?” he asked her.

She was really only giving half of her attention to the two across from her. It wasn’t so much that she didn’t want to focus completely on them, but the edges of her mind were becoming blurry and her eyelids heavy. Her breathing became shallow and slightly raspy, though she didn’t notice as she struggled against her increasingly closing lids. Her mind flickered between conscious and unconscious, dancing on the line in a tantalizing way that made Serena want to become frustrated, but she found she hadn’t the energy for the emotion. Their words seemed sloppy and twisted, increasing and lowering in sound until her eyebrows pulled together slightly in confusion.
Two strange dolls were pulled out in front of her, and a female murmuring filled her ears as a random claw came from nowhere and shredded one. Actually, it mildly frightened Serena. What the hell was going on?
Her cheeks were burning up again, reacting against whatever infection was taking hold of her foot and ankle. The slight sweat broke out over her skin, and she coughed again, closing her eyes tightly. After the coughing fit, she found herself unable to open her eyes again, and she frowned, using her hearing instead as her head sunk back into the couch.
”You aren’t going to tell anyone, right?” ”Don’t be silly. Who would I tell?” Her lips murmured, though it sounded more like ”Dnt be silly. Who wd I tll?” The frown deepened, and she yawned, opening one eye. ”I don’t think I’m feeling too well. Do you two know where there’s a hospital?” The eye soon closed, and shivers ran over her body again. ”Can you be allergic to werewolf bites?” She mused quietly.

Brothers, you go half way across the country try to save their lives, they do not appreciate it,you answer a question and add in details that will probably be asked for anyway, they get grumpy! ,Annamarie thought angrily, not looking at said brother. Even though she was angry, she refused to show it physically,at least not on her face. She started to tap her fingers against the table."June" looked at the older girl in front of her,she looked disoriented.Annie was about to ask if she was feeling alright when she asked where the hospital was."There's one on this street, and I can't thank you enough for not telling."

Nick noticed the sudden change in Serena, he crouched down by her. The hospital was about fifteen minutes away. That is by car and his car was still parked on the side of the street not far from the King’s Garden. Nick hadn’t seen a car in the driveway so that would mean he was going back for his. He sat down and started to remove his shoes and socks, he would be much faster in his wolf form. He stood and walked to the door; he opened it and stood in the doorway. Shifting while fully clothed could be a painful experience for a werewolf that wasn’t use to it, Nick however was use to it and he barely even noticed the pain anymore. He took a deep breath and a moment later a huge wolf stood in his spot. His fur was gray with a mixture of black, brown and white going throughout it. Nick crouched down and leapt forward. He ran down the driveway, disappearing into the night.

"There's one on this street, and I can't thank you enough for not telling." Serena managed a small hum of response. She heard someone beside her, and struggled to open her eyes. Only one obeyed her command, and then it took her a moment or two to focus it properly. When she did she saw Nick's concerened face. She gave a small smile. As though his concern was humourous to her. And it mildly was, here he was getting all concerned... it was almost cute. Some small part in her was cut off half-way through a scream of protest, drowned in the watery ebb and flow of her consciousness.
Then Nick just... wasn't there. She frowned. Where'd he go? Turning her head a bit, she watched the doorway. She could blurrily see Nick, standing there, with no socks or shoes on. It was almost amusing... how intense he looked... but then he had bare feet. She would have giggled if it didn't use up so much energy. His form rippled, and a horrific, though short transformation took place right in front of her eyes.
Within moments a large wolf stood there, not glancing back once before running out of the house. A pang of sadness filled her. Wasn't he going to say good night to her? Sure, they didn't know each other all that well yet... but she'd just risked her life to save him and his sister, she thought at least she deserved a 'goodnight'. "How rude." She murmured, coughing again before closing her eyes.
"If you're going to leave too... can you put the ice cream back and close the door please?" She sounded incredibly tired, and not moments after she'd said the words, Serena had slipped into the realm of dreams, twisted and horrifying dreams brought on by the fever. In her slumber, she was unable to cry out in horror, though she could recoil deep into herself. ... But how do you escape the horrors of your mind?
Tears trickled down her cheeks, and a small whimper followed, though after that, Serena's body was still, save for the harsh rise and fall of her chest. In the realm her mind had created, she curled up into a ball and cried for it all to stop.

The car rolled to a stop and Nick stepped out of the car, he opened the back door of his car and proceeded to clean off his back seat, tossing his song books to the floor along with his backpack. Leaving the door open, he jogged back to the house.Annamarie was in the same spot since he left and Serena seemed to be crying. Nick looked at Annamarie “Get in the car” he commanded. He then sat down and put his shoes back on; he wished he had packed his sneakers. He stood to his feet and walked to Serene, he lifted her into his arms. She seemed to be to him in a lot of pain. He walked back to the car; he laid her down in the back seat and shut the door. Before getting into the car he walked back to the house and locked the front door. Nick walked back to his car and slid behind the steering wheel; he put the key in the ignition and pulled out of the driveway.

It was confusing flitting between the realm of dreams and the real world. Neither seemed real, and both were painful to linger in. Only in the in-between was she peaceful. At least, that was what she called it. The “in-between”. There wasn’t really any other way to describe it. It was the few seconds or minute or so as her thoughts teetered between unconscious and conscious. She yawned, though the air seemed difficult to suck into her lungs.
Wearily, she opened an eye, dimly watching as Nick drove, the tires squealing horribly in his haste. Strangely, the sound didn’t have the same effect on her as it normally did. Normally, Serena would flinch, grimacing and trying to shake out the horrid sound. This time the normal hair-raising effect it had on her didn’t affect her. ’You’ll be fine in a bit, Serena.’ She reassured herself. Nick hadn’t left, and he was going to help her.
Her eyes fluttered closed again, and she yelped slightly as they went over a bump. A surge of energy had her sitting up, clutching around her leg, trying to cut off the circulation and pain. ”Ah f*ck this hurts.” She groaned, pushing herself back and leaning against the door. Her eyes were fixed on the bloody mess of her leg. Blood had seeped through the bandages already, and her hands were once again coated in the warm, sticky liquid. Squeezing her eyes closed, she wished for unconsciousness to take her again, but it didn’t. The fuzz was held securely back by the sharp pain, and she groaned, feeling the fever return with fervour.
